John, on his tryst with music, says - "My first love (musically) has always been the trumpet. However, my second love has become the flugelhorn and third, the post horn.  The flugelhorn's sultry, smokey  sound resonates with the people in an intimate way.  The sound is so much like my voice and it's become my means of connecting to the audience. The post horn is like the spunky little brother of the flugelhorn.  Its funky, gritty sound is the perfect voice for the blues and funkier kinds of tune..."
